The blockages we clear every week in Kyle
Almost every call that comes in here is one of six things. Working out which one you have tells you straight away whether this is a twenty-minute cable job at a single fixture or a problem out in the main line under the front yard.
One fixture is slow, the rest are fine
The blockage is in that fixture's own trap or branch arm, somewhere in the first few feet. Hair and soap in a bathroom, grease and food in a kitchen. A hand cable usually has it out before the truck door has closed.
Two fixtures back up together
A basin that gurgles when the bath drains means the blockage sits below where those two branches meet. Clearing one fixture alone will not fix it, which is why plunging the sink over and over never seems to work.
The lowest drain in the house floods
Water coming up at a shower pan or a floor drain while another fixture runs is the classic signature of a blocked main line. Stop using water and call — every flush from here adds to what is on the floor.
It clears, then comes back in a fortnight
A cable punched a hole through the blockage instead of taking the pipe wall back to bare. Roots and hardened grease both do this. It is the single most common reason people call a second company.
Every drain in the house is sluggish
Look at the vent stack before the drains. A blocked roof vent starves the system of air, and the symptom is glugging traps and slow flow everywhere at once with no actual obstruction.
A smell with no blockage at all
Usually a dry trap in a guest bathroom nobody uses, or a failed wax ring under a toilet. Neither needs a cable, and we will say so rather than running one for the sake of it.
Cable, jet or camera — how we decide
Three tools, three different jobs. Reaching for the wrong one wastes your money and, in an old line, can do real harm. This is how the choice actually gets made at the door:
- A cable machine for a single blocked fixture and for the first attack on a main line. It is fast, it is cheap, and it bores an opening — which is exactly the right answer when something solid is in the way.
- A hydro jetter when the pipe wall itself is the problem. Years of kitchen grease, scale or fine root hair coat the inside of a line and steadily shrink it. Water at pressure scours it back to the original bore; a cable only drills through.
- A camera when a drain keeps returning, when the house is being bought or sold, or when we need to know whether the pipe is broken before anybody quotes a repair. Guessing at what is under a driveway is how people end up paying twice.
On a straightforward blockage the cable goes in first and the camera comes out afterwards, so you see the line you have just paid to have cleared rather than taking our word for it.
Why Kyle is hard on drain lines
Two local facts explain most of the work we do here, and neither is anything the homeowner did wrong.
The first is the ground. Much of Hays County sits on heavy clay that swells when the rain finally arrives and shrinks hard through a Texas summer. A buried sewer lateral moves with it. Joints pull open a few millimetres, the line loses its fall in places, and waste starts sitting where it should be running. Live oak and hackberry roots find those opened joints within a season, because that is where the water is.
The second is the water. What comes out of the tap here is drawn from limestone country and it is hard by any measure. Every wash leaves a little dissolved mineral behind on the inside of the pipe, and in a kitchen line that mineral gives cooling grease something to grip. A twenty-year-old kitchen branch in Kyle is very often half the diameter it was on the day it was fitted.
Add a decade of subdivision building — Plum Creek, Steeplechase, Waterleaf and everything that has gone up along the I-35 corridor since — and there are a lot of laterals out there young enough to look fine on paper and already shifting in the clay.
What a drain call looks like
You call
Somebody who does the work answers at (737) 385-7666. We ask which fixtures are affected, whether anything is coming up rather than going down, and whether you know where your cleanout is.
A licensed, insured plumber turns up
Not a subcontractor you have never heard of. We hold a plumbing licence and liability cover, and permits get pulled on the jobs that need them.
We arrive inside the window you were given
Not a vague all-day wait. If traffic on I-35 has us running late you get a phone call about it, not silence.
We diagnose and price before the machine comes off the truck
You hear what we think it is, what clearing it involves and what it costs. Nothing starts until you say go.
We clear it, then we prove it
The fixture gets run hard to make sure the line takes real volume, not a trickle. On main line work the camera goes in afterwards and you watch the screen with us.
What actually decides the cost of a drain call
We quote at the house rather than over the phone, because until somebody has looked, a quote is a guess. What we are weighing up when we do quote is nearly always these five things, and knowing them lets you sanity-check any figure you are given:
- How we get in. An accessible exterior cleanout is the cheapest door into your drainage system. No cleanout means pulling a toilet or a trap, protecting the room, and putting it all back afterwards — time that has nothing to do with the blockage itself.
- Where the blockage sits. A trap arm behind a basin is a different job from a mass sixty feet out under the front lawn, even though both present as “the sink is blocked”.
- What is actually in there. Soft material gives way quickly. A compacted root mass has to be cut back in passes. A collapsed pipe cannot be cleared at all, and no amount of machine time will change that.
- Which machine the job needs. A hand auger, a sectional machine and a jetter are three different pieces of kit with three different set-up times.
- When you call. Out-of-hours work costs more than a booked morning slot. If what you are describing can safely wait until the morning, we will say so on the phone.
What we will not do is start work on an hourly rate and let the meter run. You get a figure for the job before anything comes off the truck, and if what we find changes the job, we stop and tell you before carrying on.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be home for the work?
Somebody over 18 needs to be there to let us in, approve the price and confirm the drain is running properly before we leave. Main line work through an exterior cleanout is the one case where less of that matters, but we would still rather show you the result.
How long should a drain stay clear after you have been?
That depends on why it blocked. A one-off obstruction removed from a sound pipe should not come back at all. A line with roots or a belly will block again eventually, and the camera footage is what tells you roughly when and what would stop it for good.
How much does drain cleaning cost in Kyle?
A single blocked fixture cleared through an accessible cleanout is the low end; a main line that needs jetting and a camera survey is the high end. You get the actual figure at your house before any work begins, so the number you agree to is the number you pay.
Can you come out today?
Usually, yes. Call (737) 385-7666 — we hold slots back each day for backups and overflows, and the emergency line runs around the clock.
Will a cable damage my pipes?
Not in a sound line, used properly. In a line that is already cracked or badly offset a cable can make things worse, which is exactly why we camera anything that has blocked more than once instead of cabling it again and hoping.
Do those supermarket drain chemicals work?
Rarely, and they make the visit worse. They seldom shift a real obstruction, they sit in the trap as caustic liquid waiting for whoever opens it, and on older metal pipe they do genuine damage. If you have already poured some in, just tell us — we would rather know.
What is a cleanout and do I have one?
It is a capped access point that lets a cable reach the main line without coming through your house. In Kyle it is usually a white or black cap in the ground on the sewer side of the property. If you have not got one, we can still work, and we will point out where fitting one would pay for itself the next time.
